School Dress Code
Please be reminded that all students must follow the HCPS dress code. This means:
- Students may not wear sunglasses, hats, and headwear of any type (Ex.- scarves, bandanas, doo rags, etc.) in the school or during the school day.
- Students are not allowed to wear backless tops, tank tops with straps thinner than two inches wide (unless a T-shirt is worn underneath), tube tops, halter tops, spaghetti-stringed tops, halter tops, revealing shirts, or shirts with inappropriate slogans.
- Students may not wear short shorts, excessively short skirts, excessively baggy pants, or pants that “hang down” and expose the student’s underwear.
- Flip-flops, clogs, and backless shoes are considered inappropriate for school. For safety reasons, students wearing such footwear will not be allowed to participate in gym class or play on the playground. “Heelies” or other wheeled shoes ARE NOT permitted at school.
Students who come to school wearing attire that violates this dress code will be made aware of this violation and, whenever possible, arrangements will be made for them to discreetly change into more appropriate attire. Parents will be contacted. We do not want to single out or do anything to embarrass any of our students, so your cooperation with this system-wide dress code is most appreciated.
Exceptions to specific items identified as inappropriate in the dress code (ex.- wearing hats in the building) may occasionally be made on designated Spirit Days or for approved class activities. Parents will be notified whenever these exceptions are made.
Medication
All medications, whether prescription or over-the-counter, need to have orders from the physician and permission from the parent. Any medication may be dropped off to school personnel after 7:45 a.m. Special arrangements may be made on an "as needed basis." We discourage parents simply leaving the medication in a mailbox. Cough drops are classified as a medication. Lip balm is not.
Shared/Party Food Items
If a classroom party is planned and a treat will be donated, please be advised that we cannot allow home-baked goods. Any treats that are sent to school for this purpose MUST be store-bought, prepackaged, and must include the ingredient listing on the packaging. This is to ensure the safety of all of our students, especially those with food allergies. Most students, even some of those with food allergies, can eat rice crispies treats, or we also would suggest bringing in other food, candy, or even non-food items to share with the class. If you have any questions regarding what is acceptable to send into school, please contact Mrs. Spence.
